The Graphic Designer Assistant for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement uses design and art direction to help engage alumni and friends and inspire them to give in support of UIC's mission and priorities. This role collaborates with advancement communications colleagues to create compelling visual communications for alumni, donors, friends, faculty, staff, students and community audiences across all of OVCA's communications channels.
Duties & Responsibilities : Under direction from the associate designer and university creative director, develop designs that brand OVCA's marketing and communications efforts.Manage complex design projects by creating timelines, assigning deadlines and coordinating reviews and approvals.Contribute design to projects across mediums, including : Web sites, e-newsletters, magazines, social media channels, video, mailings, event collateral and more.Assist in serving internal clients.Develop and translate designs into usable templates on Canva, while also managing graphic assets on the platform.Work within and help reinforce the visual identity, brand standards, tone and messaging for UIC.Stay abreast of marketing and design trends and best practices across all print and digital.Perform other duties as assigned to further the goals of the advancement office.
Minimum Qualifications Required :
1. Any one or any combination that equals thirty-six (36) months from the categories below :
A. credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school course work that would lead to a major in graphic / visual arts communication and / or design60 semester hours equals 12 months90 semester hours equals 24 months120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 36 monthsB. work experience and / or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are / is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic / visual arts communication and / or design
Preferred Qualifications :
A bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field to the position.Strong artistic ability.Motion graphics, photography and / or illustration skills / experience a plus.Solid understanding of creating graphics for a Web environment, including HTML and CSS design.Ability to work and problem solve independently and within a team and to juggle multiple projects and priorities at once.Proficiency with industry standard software, including the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects).Experience working with Microsoft Office products.Be organized and creative with an understanding of visual communication principles and sufficient knowledge of HTML and web usability.
