The UIC School of Law, Chicago’s only public law school, is seeking a Registrar.

Description:

Position Summary
This position provides overall leadership and management of all aspects of student registration, records, and scheduling for the Law School. Ensures the integrity and confidentiality of student and institutional records. Oversees and coordinates instructional space assignments and scheduling, curriculum management, and administration of examinations to all students. Provides strategic planning and direction for the maintenance and enhancement of the academic information structure of the Law School. Assumes any other responsibilities assigned by the Dean or Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Plan, coordinate, and provide leadership in all aspects of the master curriculum offerings of the Law School; develops and maintains the academic schedule, updates course offerings in accordance with Law School policies and procedures.
  • Establish and administer processes and procedures for student records management, archiving, and destruction, in accordance with established regulations, policies, and standards for maintaining, handling, and disposing of student and institutional records.
  • Oversee all aspects of the examination process for the Law School; creates examination schedules, directs and supervises exam preparation and distribution to faculty.
  • Collaborate with Student Life and Vice Dean for special examination arrangements, and proctoring.
  • Manage the processing and recording of all student grades, processing of grade changes, and tabulation of academic and graduation honors listings.
  • Oversee and monitor student academic standing, probation, and dismissal.
  • In connection with the Vice Dean, certify completion of graduation requirements and eligibility to bar examinations.
  • Oversee compilation, recording, verification, and dissemination of all data related to student enrollment, curriculum, academic progress, grades, and bar pass rates for the Law School.
  • Responsible for understanding relevant American Bar Association and Higher Learning Commission standards and ensuring that those standards are met in the law school Registrar’s Office.
  • Responsible for understanding relevant state and federal standards, such as FERPA and Title IV, and ensuring compliance within the law school Registrar’s Office.
  • Participate in major report preparation, such as reports for accrediting agencies.
  • Plan, assign, and review the work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Ability to provide excellent student service.
  • Skill in using computerized student information systems.
  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of student records management principles, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of accreditation, and state and federal regulations.
  • Strong supervisory and management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge and understanding of curriculum management processes, methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of law school academic and graduation requirements and eligibility requirements for bar examinations.
  • Demonstrated practice of handling confidential information with integrity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior work in a professional school Registrar’s Office preferred.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $105,000 annually. The position currently offers a hybrid remote work environment based on the department’s operational needs. This position sometimes requires working beyond normal business hours.
