Job Description
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Accounting team, responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and supporting the institution’s financial reporting and compliance efforts. The Staff Accountant will work closely with other departments to maintain the integrity of financial records, assist with the preparation of financial statements, and contribute to various accounting functions in support of the university’s mission and goals.

The Staff Accountant will work closely with other departments to maintain the integrity of financial records, assist with the preparation of financial statements, and contribute to various accounting functions in support of the university’s mission and goals.
Requirements/Qualifications
- At least 1-3 years of experience in accounting or a related financial field, preferably in a higher education environment.
- Knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices, and standards.
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
General Ledger and Cash Management
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Process journal entries, including adjusting entries, accruals, and reallocations, as needed.
- Manage and report cash activity, including daily cash extracts, monthly reconciliations, and communication to other departments regarding cash activity.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Support the preparation of reports for internal stakeholders and external auditors.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets.
- Provide financial data and analysis for departmental forecasting and planning.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
- Provide necessary support for internal and external audits, including preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Assist in various accounting-related projects, process improvements, and system enhancements as needed.
