The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, in the Carver College of Medicine, at the University of Iowa, invites applicants for an Assistant Professor with Tenure position. This position includes a 12-month appointment, fringe benefits, competitive start-up package, and access to state-of-the-art laboratory and core facilities. The primary appointment of the faculty member will be in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program, and participate in teaching activities in the Department. Successful applicants will have strong research interests in cell differentiation and lung biology as well as a ample experience with basic science bioinformatics methods and approaches.

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology has broad research interests in cell and developmental biology, neurobiology, cancer biology, vascular biology, stem-cell biology, molecular medicine, cystic fibrosis, and gene therapy. The department is also the administrative home of the University's Gene Therapy Center, an entity that funds, and otherwise supports, research in molecular medicine, with a particular emphasis on the development of genetic and cell therapies for cystic fibrosis. The department is also the center for the anatomical sciences at the University of Iowa, with an innovative approach to teaching to a wide variety of professional training programs on campus.

Education Requirement:

All applicants must have a PhD and/or MD degree.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should have a demonstrated ability in research with clear potential for supporting an innovative and productive research program. Applicants must have clear plans to create a funded research program and demonstrate the ability to mentor and teach PhD graduate students. Applicants with research interests studying basic cellular processes in the airway relevant to lung pathophysiology are encouraged to apply.

Desirable Qualifications:

Existing funding is not strictly required for the application. Preference will be given to individuals with a strong publication record who use state-of-the art techniques to address emerging and critical questions in lung biology. We are particularly interested in candidates who’s research centers on cellular biology, plasticity, and niche-dependent changes in mechanotransduction in lung disease and tissue regeneration.
