Clerk III, Health Information Management Department, Release of Information Division, University of Iowa Health Care, Health Care Support Services Building (HSSB)

The Department of Health Information Management at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time, Clerk III. This position will be responsible for medical record activities with primary duties to include obtaining, releasing, scanning, importing and faxing confidential patient medical record information.

This position location is in Coralville, IA and eligible to participate in remote work. Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the State of Iowa. Training will be held ONSITE at the Health Care Support Services (HSSB) building at a length determined by the supervisor. Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training and meeting required performance standards. Successful candidates must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check.

Annual Salary : $ 38,314.80 to $57,023.28

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Release medical information ro health care facilities, patients, attorneys, insurance companies, and thiurd-party payer representatives requesting information on the telephone, by mail, fax, email or MyChart.
  • Releases medical information in accordance with State and Federal laws, HIPAA Guidelines, and Hospital policies and regualtions.
  • Scan and / or import medical record documents into electronic medical record.
  • Record activity in electronic Release of Information System in electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Review and process patient portal requests (MyChart access requests).
  • Answer multi-line telephone.
  • May request or update paper medical record location via Medical Record Tracking System.
  • Cash / check handing / processing responsibilities.

Staff members are also expected to comply with policies governing employee responsibilities and conduct, including those contained in the University Operations Manual .

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and / or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.

  • Epic Medical Record Tracking System experience.
  • Office equipment experience.

  • Experience using Zoom, Skype and Microsoft Teams.
