Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion includes significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University.
The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths.

Job Description
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Precepting residents 2 half-days per week
- Attend on Inpatient Service and/or FM-OB
- Teach residents procedures through Procedure Clinic
- Establish structure and a curriculum for subject area as assigned by PD (e.g. Maternity Care, Quality Improvement, Didactics, Advising, Community Health, POCUS, simulation)
- Attend Core in-person during the assigned Faculty Participant in Core time
- Participate in videotaped clinic sessions with resident and Behavioral Health colleague
- Lead learning activities or lecture. Examples:
- Facilitate core sessions 4-6 times per year
- Facilitate Journal Club
- Develop and help with simulations and structured assessments during orientation and resident development months
- Clinical Competency Committee 1x/month
- Residency Core Faculty Meeting 1x/month
- Program Evaluation Committee every other month
- Participate in Annual Program Evaluation Report
- Assist with application review during interview season
- Interview 1 to 2 half-days per week November-January
- Internal recruitment – advising and mentoring KU medical students throughout the year as needed
- Help develop recruitment plan
- Attend resident recruitment events as assigned by Program Director
- Develop and implement plan to improve identified gaps in the residency curriculum
- Coach 1-2 PGY1s during first 6 months of residency
- Coach at least one PGY2/3
- Meet with each assigned resident quarterly
- Coach resident through Individualized Learning Plan
- Review resident dashboard and quality metrics with each resident
- Review evaluations with each resident
- Develop a scholarly activity or research project with the intent of presenting a poster regionally or nationally, or submitting a presentation to a conference, or submitting a paper to a journal
- Assist residents in their research and QI projects
Required Qualifications:
- Board certified MD/DO
- Minimum of 5 years clinical experience beyond Family Medicine Residency
Work Experience:
- Point of Care Ultrasound experience and use in clinical practice
- Sports Medicine fellowship training and subsequent CAQ
- Leadership skills
