Summary
The Manager, Public Safety Operations Support will be responsible for managing and directing supervisors and non-law enforcement employees in the following units : Records and Information Management, Accreditation, and Policy Research and Development. The position will report to a law enforcement commander at the rank of captain or above. This position requires the ability to work with police command and will ensure that the agency stays compliant with Clery requirements and all CALEA certification requirements.
Job Responsibilities :
Provides leadership and supervision within the following units : Records and Information Management, Accreditation, and Policy Research and Development.
Maintains constant and consistent communication with appropriate police command.
Makes recommendations regarding hiring, termination, discipline, promotion, and other personnel actions within assigned units.
Assists with budget in all assigned units.
Serves as the chairperson of interview boards for initial hiring and / or promotions within the assigned units.
Liaisons with the patrol captain that serves as the radio system manager for the KUMC radio system, recommending system and maintenance as needed.
Collaborates with internal personnel and external vendors to ensure system maintenance and performance.
Recommends improvements and purchases to improve system performance and capabilities.
Writes and submits clear, concise, legible, and timely reports, as needed.
Receives and participates in training, as required.
Maintains relevant certification credentials.
Creates and maintains policies and procedures for assigned unit operations that are subject to approval by the Police Chief.
Assists in Project Management, as needed, within the assigned units.
Assists with data analytics, as needed.
Manage Fleet Maintenance; approx. 28 vehicles.
Required Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, emergency management, or related field. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Experience used to substitute education is in addition to any required work experience.
Work Experience :
Minimum four (4) years relevant experience in Public Safety or related field.
Minimum two (2) years supervisory or management experience.
Must be able to successfully pass a background check conducted by the KUMC Police Department.
Experience in project management.
Languages : English

Work Experience :
Experience within a law enforcement agency.

Skills
Proficient with the use of computers, software packages, and systems (Microsoft Office).
Possesses superior critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Must have strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a variety of people at all levels of the organization as well as remain calm in crisis situations.

Compensation Statement :
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
