The position will help navigate patients through the system, address barriers to care, and serve as a gatekeeper for all services provided to all limited-English-proficient (LEP) Spanish-speaking patients at the BCC.
The Bilingual Navigator will provide Spanish medical interpretation for UKHC, in compliance with federal and state requirements and Joint Commission standards.
The Bilingual Navigator will also engage in basic case management activities and advocacy in support of the health outcomes of LEP patients enrolled in the Ryan White Programs at the BCC. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Language proficiency proven by HS or college diploma for Spanish language or third party proficiency evaluation or test. Successful completion of accredited 40 hour training in medical interpreting. Knowledge of and experience working with community-based resources providing services to the identified patient population. Use of electronic medical record, good communication skills, good problem solving skills. Experience with Windows PC, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Databases); Bilingual Spanish / English required. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree plus five or more years experience working with children / families from vulnerable populations, including experience in social service, non-profit, health care, and community organization settings. National certification for Medical / Healthcare Interpreter preferred. Experience with people living with HIV / AIDS preferred.
