The Life Coach/Retention Specialist of the ULM TRIO Program—Student Support Services program assists with the development, implementation, and sustainability of the programs philosophy, goals, and objectives through coordinating services, providing advisement, counseling, developing of life skills, and development of five-year plan with students. The position is responsible for promoting services at the university and providing advising and counseling services for SSS participants to address academic, financial, and personal growth issues. The mission of the program is to increase the retention and graduation rate of underserved college students through providing comprehensive support including tutoring, career counseling/guidance, academic and personal advising, and the development of life skills.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assist with intake paperwork and identification and selection of students for programProvide personal, academic and career counseling/guidance to program participants Assist students with identification and implementation of academic and life coaching skills Develop five year action plan for SSS participants and monitor academic and life-skills development progressCoordinate and monitor with peer mentor program Provide assessment interpretation to SSS participants to assist them in development of skills for academic and life success as well as career guidanceServe as lead for future planning of workshops, counseling/guidance and SSS course based outcomes of the evaluationsAssists in the development, coordination, and implementation of the ULM-TRIO Programs 1st Gen AmbassadorsParticipates in team meeting to develop/coordinate effective program and achieve mandated outcomesFile management, data collection and data entry in Blumen Participate in field trips, parental meetings, and recruitment activities as needed (may include afterhours and Saturday work)Develop workshops based on best practice research and SSS participant needs to address deficits or issues common for low-income, first generation and students with disabilitiesEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with other agency and departments in the university and communityAssist in recruiting admitted ULM students who are potential SSS participants to the SSS programMaintain basic knowledge/compliance of federal regulations for SSS programMaintain IRB certification; Participate in Title IX and Ethics training, as required; Participate in quarterly safety meetings; Participate in ethics training annually; successfully complete driver certification training as requiredParticipate in annual performance evaluation, goal setting and future planning for TRIO SSS Program Teaching University Seminar, as neededDrive in state service for the program services including students and staffOther duties as assigned by program staff
