Seasonal - Aquatics Coordinator

You will work closely with the Camp Directors to direct the daily operations of the camp waterfront assuring the safety of campers and staff. Being available at the waterfront when the swimming area is open, assure the proper camper/lifeguard ratios are met, assure staff and campers abide by camp rules and state regulations, facilitate camper swim challenges each week, and more. When not at the waterfront, you will assist with other aspects of camp operations including camper supervision, teaching camper lessons, and more. You will be based at Greenland Point 4-H Camp in Princeton, Maine. You will work closely with the camp directors to run the aquatics programming at camp. You will work a full summer schedule from early to mid June through early to mid August. You will reside on-site throughout the season. You may live in cabins with campers based on program needs. You will generally work Sunday thru Friday with occasional Saturday work. You will receive daily time off Monday through Thursday and weekends off are Friday late afternoon thru Sunday morning. $3,000 - $6,000 for the season (6 to 10 weeks), commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

• You will assist Directors with waterfront operations and management.
• You will lifeguard during swim times for each group every day.
• You will provide or assist lifeguards with in-service training.
• You will supervise campers and ensure safety and risk management policies are followed.
• You will host waterfront orientations for camper groups.
• You will plan lessons, lead activities, mentor campers, and create opportunities for campers to learn and explore the outdoors through high-quality experiences.
• You will perform camp chores that benefit the greater community.
• You will attend staff meetings as scheduled.
• You will provide basic first aid as needed.
• You will live in cabins and supervise campers, fostering a supportive, fun, and positive living environment.
• You will teach camper programs in areas such as conservation education, wilderness survival, boating, outdoor cooking, and more.
• You will supervise and lead activities for groups while staff are taking time off.
• You will attend and actively participate in a one-week paid staff training, where you will learn, practice, and review practical skills.
• You will assist camp counselors with resolving group conflicts and addressing other camper situations as needed.
• You will supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times, encouraging problem-solving and decision-making.
• You will contribute to community living by participating in chores (helping hands), meal service, and any necessary maintenance duties.
• You will model positive energy, clear communication, and good stewardship of the environment.
• You will actively engage with campers during lessons, activities, and mealtimes to foster a supportive community.
• You will regularly evaluate the program with the Director to enhance the overall camp experience.
• Additional duties may be assigned or reassigned based on camp needs.

Who We Are

The 4-H Camp & Learning Center at Greenland Point provides environmentally focused programming for Maine youth through summer camp and school programs. These programs are designed to inspire outdoor fun, practical woods-wise skills, and hands-on conservation education. Participants may learn a new outdoor skill or activity that will increase their awareness and understanding of ways that we can live fulfilling lives and make sound choices while doing the things that we enjoy. Through these programs, our mission is to teach youth to be effective and caring citizens through affordable environmental education and fun nature-based experiences.

Qualifications

Required

• You need a High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
• You are 21 years of age or older
• You need to hold a Waterfront Lifeguard certification OR be willing to take training (camp will provide training)
• You have the ability to work with a diverse groups of youth and adults
• With or without accommodation, you have the ability to travel outdoors over various terrain, responding efficiently in the event of an emergency
• You have the ability to lead groups in various outdoor environments
