Reporting to the Associate Director of Leadership Annual Giving, the Assistant Director of Annual Giving will assist with implementing strategies designed to meet donor participation and revenue goals. The Assistant Director will have primary responsibility for program strategy, implementation, growth and evaluation of special initiatives including Gritstarters – the student organization crowdfunding platform, the student philanthropy awareness program, and the graduates of the last decade program. The Assistant Director will coordinate the development of external marketing materials including letters, brochures, digital advertisements, web and social media content and other materials needed to promote these initiatives. In addition, this position will manage a portfolio of 50-75 leadership annual giving level donors to help increase donor retention.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $68,000 and has over 4 weeks of vacation for regular full time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will be responsible for the program strategy, implementation, growth and evaluation of leadership annual giving fundraising.
Specific duties include:
- Develop strategies for education, awareness, and solicitation through direct mail and e-mail in collaboration with the Alumni and Development Communications and Marketing team.
- Gritstarters – work with student groups to develop strategies for outreach and fundraising
- Student Education and Awareness Program – develop a program to increase student awareness of the importance of philanthropy to UMBC.
- Qualifies, cultivates, and solicits alumni and parents capable of making annual gifts of $1,000 to $4,999, with primary emphasis on retaining and increasing giving from existing donors.
- Meet outreach targets of 8-10 contacts per day through phone calls, written (emails and letters) and video communications (ThankView and Webex) to continually qualify new donors and cultivate, solicit and steward existing donors.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three years of fundraising, sales, or similar experience.
- Strong interest in promoting UMBC fundraising priorities through the development of excellent relationships with student organizations, campus partners, volunteers and the Office of Institutional Advancement team.
- A demonstrated ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds is an integral part of this position.
- Possess the skills necessary to adapt to a variety of cross-cultural situations, settings and circumstances that are intrinsic to development work.
- Organizational and time management skills are essential as is the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
- Professional conduct and appropriate handling of confidential information.
Note: Position is full-time and may involve occasional travel, evening, and/or weekend work
- Experience in face-to-face solicitation.
- Experience working with students and/or volunteers in a higher education setting.
- The ability to develop effective cultivation and solicitation strategies that result in financial support to UMBC.

Salary: $68,000 - $73,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
