What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant Coordinator - Family Medicine position at University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc?
This position is designed to manage patient calls that do not result in scheduled appointments. These calls may include requests for prescription refills, inquiries about the practice or providers, form-related questions, and other concerns best handled by someone within the practice. Additionally, this role will improve coordination and routing of calls within the practice, working closely with operations and nursing staff for immediate resolution.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Medical Assistant certification required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Two to three years related medical office experience.
- Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines
- General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
- PC proficiency
- Strong customer service skills
- Accurate data entry skills
- Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
- Knowledge of GE, EPIC or similar computerized billing system
- Medical terminology preferred
- CPR certification is required
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Performs ED/IP admissions and discharge follow-up; views EPIC and CRISP medical records to assist in the creation of care plans for patients.
2.Conducts Social Determinant of Health Patient Screenings.
3.Assists with care coordination of Medicare beneficiaries.
4.Maintains logs of patients that have received preventative care including to but not limited to: colonoscopies, diabetic eye exams and mammograms during the calendar year.
5.Provides post injection and diabetic patient education.
6.Identifies patients for IPPE, AWV, and SAWV and posts to providers schedules weekly.
7.Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times.
8.Utilizes appropriately and accurately the electronic system to perform required duties.
