What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Analyst position at University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc?
The Payroll Analyst is responsible for:
- Payroll Processing:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees.
- Validate and process wages, overtime, bonuses, and other compensation.
- Ensure accurate processing of garnishments, tax levies, and other deductions.
- Assist in managing and reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Process off-cycle payments as needed.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
- Generate and analyze payroll reports for department review.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Data Management and Analysis:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records.
- Analyze payroll data to identify trends and discrepancies.
- Reconcile payroll data with timekeeping system.
- Identify and resolve payroll errors and discrepancies.
- Create and maintain documentation of payroll processes and procedures.
- Employee Support:
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll-related issues.
- Provide clear and accurate explanations of payroll policies and procedures.
- Provide training of payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Assist employees with accessing and understanding their pay stubs and W-2s.
- Resolve payroll-related issues in a timely and professional manner.
- System Administration:
- Assist with the maintenance of payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Troubleshoot payroll system issues and work with the HRIS administrator to resolve problems.
- Recommend and implement system improvements to enhance efficiency.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
AA degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 2-5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience.
Experience with use of web based payroll systems such as Peoplesoft, ADP & Ultipro .
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Intermediate Excel skills required.
Familiarity with various payroll deductions, taxes and regulations preferred.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s geographical location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/ training and other qualifications.
