POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Department Director of the Transformation Office, the Senior Project Manager, Performance Improvement provides strategic, senior level management of large scale, cross-departmental improvement initiatives as defined by Executive Leadership. This role works in close partnership with internal customers including executive sponsors, work stream leads, operational managers and leadership groups associated with the assigned projects.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads and manages improvement projects independently as assigned to meet established goals and timelines. Influences processes, behaviors and outcomes to complete assignments in a timely and quality-focused manner.
- Develops, executes and revises work plans as appropriate to the project including tasks, timeline and responsible parties. Monitors status and outcomes utilizing contemporary tools and required follow-up with responsible parties. Prepares status report when requested.
- Assembles multidisciplinary members and aligns them into collaborative teams to arrive at solutions to a diverse array of issues associated with improving operational and clinical practice. Motivates team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.
- Facilitates meetings to accomplish identified project tasks. Develops and distributes meeting agendas; documents and follows-up on key actions.
- Utilizes performance improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma in management of projects. Fosters an environment of critical thinking and continuous process improvement.
- Leads detailed current state assessment, future state design and implementation strategies for initiatives within the scope of the project. Develops process maps of current and future state processes using appropriate techniques and software.
- Performs risk management and employs risk mitigation techniques as necessary.
- Measures current organizational and process performance using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques including one-on-one user interviews, user workshops, surveys, observational studies, and statistical analysis.
- Initiates, exhibits and supports excellent bidirectional communication and superior working relationships with all audiences to foster ongoing information exchange during the life cycle of improvement initiatives.
- Builds trust and uses collaborative mechanisms to gather project support from key stakeholders.
- Prepares, analyzes and presents detailed clinical, operational, financial and other information to support the work (e.g. utilization rates, staffing levels, volume analysis, and cost analysis).
- Independently conducts relevant best practice research, process analyses, benchmarking and performance measurement activities, such as baseline and sustainment metrics, as directed. Develops presentations of the information that inform audiences in a clear and accurate manner.
- Develops solutions that incorporate business logic, customer needs and appropriate change management techniques, including communication and education, to ensure improvements are successfully implemented and sustained.
- Assists operational managers in developing associated policies and procedures and defining necessary resources to sustain the improvements associated with the project.
- Documents, organizes and maintains records and files containing work plans, analysis tools and results, communications and presentations, sustainment plans and final deliverables.

QualificationsEducation
- Required: Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or related field is required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Required: None
- Preferred: Project Management, Lean, and or Six Sigma certification strongly preferred
Applicable Experience
- Required: Seven to ten (7-10) years of increasingly responsible experience in healthcare system, acute care hospital or healthcare management and/or related healthcare consulting, to include demonstrated results and achievements in leading large improvement initiatives.
