The University of Maryland seeks an experienced, creative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as Chief Development Officer (CDO) for the College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a dynamic advancement team currently in the silent phase of a 10-figure university-wide campaign.
Key Responsibilities
The CDO will serve as the chief fundraiser for the College of Arts and Humanities. They will carry a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and be the unit manager on behalf of University Relations for the College of Arts and Humanities. The CDO will identify and engage regional development markets in collaboration with development colleagues and maintain development travel schedules.
The CDO will initiate first alumni contact for the Dean, faculty, and other administrators, and coordinate with all development staff and gift stewardship activities with donor relations. They will partner with the Dean and key faculty in the development and successful implementation of strategies to advance the goals of the College through philanthropic support.

Requirements
- Ability to understand the development needs and constituencies of the many different programs that make up the College of Arts and Humanities.
- Ability to identify and build constituencies for support, in setting and achieving individual and group goals, and in planning and executing campaigns.
- Experience with corporate and foundation fundraising.
- Knowledgeable about best practices in the advancement field.
- Must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a large university with an integrated development program.
A background or strong interest in programs promoting the arts and humanities is also required. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience supervising or managing professional staff are also required.
Work Environment
The work is performed in a traditional office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Some occasional evening and weekend work is required as necessary. Travel is required up to 40% of the time.
