The BSA/AML Analyst is responsible for maintaining appropriate operational security and BSA measures throughout the credit union. Responsible for monitoring transactions and transaction history for all types of fraud and suspicious activity including identity theft, money-laundering, kiting and suspicious activity. Responsible for BSA Operations including, products, policies, procedures and training necessary to maintain compliance with BSA, OFAC, U.S. Patriot Act, Anti-Money Laundering, S.A.F.E. Act, CFPB regulations and the Customer Identification Program. Serves as liaison for all law enforcement agencies.

What you'll be doing in this role:

  • Assesses regulatory and internal compliance regarding BSA Operations, monitoring and control systems
  • Reviews and files all Currency Transaction Reports
  • Completes bi-weekly 314(a) reporting
  • Performs required CDD and EDD reviews
  • Monitor fraud and BSA software to investigate any illegal or suspicious activity involving credit union accounts including but not limited to possible kiting, credit card fraud, money-laundering, identity theft, etc.
  • Monitors SAR dashboard in BSA Software and has responsibility of communicating necessary information to BSA Officer or designate for decision to file SAR.
  • Prepares statistical and operational reports as well as reviews data and statistical reports to monitor member transactions for fraud or suspicious activity.
  • Perform SAR file reviews and file as needed. Prepare monthly reporting on filed SARs for management and Board of Directors
  • Maintains knowledge and evaluates sufficiency of UMCU plans, policies and procedures, and compliance with applicable governmental laws and regulations as it pertains to Fraud and BSA. Implements changes as needed.
  • Responsible for BSA training necessary for UMCU team members based on their role in the organization.
  • Communicates with other departments of the Credit Union to enhance security and BSA knowledge across the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for security of member information and maintains high level of professionalism in regard to confidentiality.
  • Creates reports utilizing software for watch list data, fraud alerts, red flag alerts, etc.
  • Assists with training of new team members and periodically re-trains other team members in the proper use of security devices and procedures to be followed in case of: robbery, bomb threat, active shooter, extortion attempt or civil disturbance
  • Directs activities related to revising, updating or developing credit union security measures and procedures which comply with federal, state or local laws
  • Serves as UM Credit Union representative to various security groups (local or otherwise), attending monthly/quarterly meetings and reporting all relevant information to management
  • Provides back-up as Security Officer as designated by the Board of Directors
  • Volunteers in various activities sponsored by UMCU within the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor communities
  • Other duties as assigned


What you'll need for this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or a minimum of 3 years financial institution required
  • Sensitivity to confidential matters and ability to exercise discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Must be a team player and possess a high energy “can do” attitude


Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The environment is typical of an office atmosphere. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The team member is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
