Provides basic patient care services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. Performs various clerical and administrative duties under the direction of the Physician Practice Office Supervisor.

General Requirements Current certification in basic life support Certified Medical Assistant-preferred
Work Experience Previous experience in a physician health care office or similar setting-preferred
Education High School Diploma or GED Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program-preferred
Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of computers, insurance, and medical terminology Excellent verbal and communication skills.

- Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and office staff in a professional manner.
- Processes patients and schedules appointments/tests following established guidelines.
- Assists in assessing the condition of the patient, and preparing the patient for the examination.
- Reports pertinent information to appropriate personnel, and records data in the patient record.
- Administers medication, performs diagnostic procedures/treatments in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
- Answers phone/nurse line, and refers patient calls to the appropriate personnel.
- Enters and posts appropriate information on patient encounter forms and department logs.
- Maintains files, obtains appropriate authorization forms/releases. Prepares and files records.
- Acts as trusted agent for providers ordering prescriptions by calling, faxing or electronically/sent prescriptions and refill information to designated pharmacy.
- Maintains equipment and supplies, and operates various office and medical equipment.
- Perform registrar duties as needed.
