Positions Location: Lansing, MI
General Purpose of Job:
The Coding Specialist provides procedure and diagnostic coding based on documentation in the patient medical record The Coding Specialist will be responsible for coding daily activities to facilitate the revenue cycle process.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Diagnostic and procedure coding of provider services according to established guidelines.
- Correlate diagnoses, procedures and modifiers with the medical billing system based on provider documentation.
- Assist with maintaining an effective system for coding and charge processing.
- Continued medical coding and billing education to remain current with coding changes.
- Assist with developing and maintaining policies/procedures for coding processes.
- Work with other Caregivers, providers, insurance carriers and others to resolve coding issues for appropriate documentation and reimbursement.
- Work with all Caregivers to achieve account receivable goals.
- Responsible for knowledge and use of coding software and all other applicable research tools.
- May provide training as directed.
- Other projects as assigned.
General Requirements | * Certified Professional Coding Certificate, AAPC, current and completed required continuing education |
Work Experience | * One year diagnostic and procedure coding * Experience working in a multi-physician practice * Preferred- One year physician electronic billing experience comprised of all insurance carriers preferred |
Education | * High school diploma or equivalent. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills | * Demonstrates working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM * Knowledge of computer billing systems, programs and applications * Detailed knowledge of medical records, anatomy, physiology and disease processes * Preferred- EPIC experience. |
