Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics Health Metrics and Learning Health Systems Program is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Visualization and Business Intelligence Analyst to join a team that is passionate about using data-driven insights to improve the health and well-being of children. This individual gathers, analyzes and interprets data from a variety of administrative and clinical databases to contribute to operational, clinical care, quality improvement, and research initiatives for the Department of Pediatrics. The analyst will have expertise in the creation of data sources and data dashboards to support faculty-led initiatives focused on clinical transformation, quality improvement, and measurement of pediatric health outcomes, as well as Departmental enterprise reporting of finances, faculty productivity, and other KPIs to the Departmental Administrator and Chair. This position will report to Dr. Joyce Lee, Associate Chair for Health Metrics and Learning Health Systems for the Department of Pediatrics.

Responsibilities

Database Management and Reporting

Collaborate with healthcare business stakeholders (physicians, administrators, project managers, staff) to understand their data needs and translate them into effective visualizations and dashboards

Create and maintain enterprise-level data sources, Tableau dashboards and workbooks that are user-friendly, visually appealing, and that effectively communicate complex data insights and support the translation these insights into clear, actionable recommendations for business stakeholders

Connect to various enterprise data sources, including databases, spreadsheets, and cloud platforms, to extract and transform data for the purposes of database creation, analysis, visualization, and action

Ensure optimal dashboard performance and user experience and apply best practices in data visualization and dashboard design to ensure clarity, accuracy, and accessibility

Data Governance

Perform data quality checks and validation to ensure the integrity of data used in visualizations

Ensure proper handling of data and data governance with all data sources

Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of measurement methods and algorithms, data sources, and reporting processes

Work collaboratively to support physician and staff training of Tableau and data analysis best practices

Data Science

Utilize R and Python to enhance data analysis and visualization capabilities, including data cleaning, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics

Collaborate on novel opportunities to develop and implement predictive models and machine learning algorithms to improve patient outcomes and optimize healthcare delivery

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree (quantitative field like biostatistics, public health, computer science, economics, engineering, informatics) with an advanced degree preferred

Exceptional SQL skills, including the ability to write complex, optimized queries

Strong understanding of data modeling and dimensional design principles

Experience in dashboard design and data visualization best practices

Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities

Experience with version control and documentation practices

Ability to gain certification in querying analytic EHR databases (Clarity, Caboodle) through training

Experience with Data Warehouse and BI systems

Senior

  • 5 years of experiencewith Tableau, including the ability to create and maintain interactive dashboards, data flows and Tableau server / online administration

Intermediate

  • 3 to 5 years of experiencewith Tableau, including the ability to create and maintain interactive dashboards, data flows and Tableau server / online administration
  • Desired Qualifications

    Masters Degree (biostatistics, public health, computer science, economics, engineering, informatics) Tableau Desktop Certified Professional certification

    Clarity Certification

    Experience with Python or R for advanced data manipulation and analysis

    Background Screening
