What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Data Analyst position at University of Minnesota?

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or a combination of related education or work experience to equal four years;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Excel and other data analysis tools;
  • Experience with survey software (e.g., Qualtrics)
  • Experience preparing charts, graphs, tables, and presentations
  • Experience working in higher education with large data sets to measure outcomes
  • Experience with University of Minnesota reporting mechanisms (Reporting Center, Data Warehouse, PeopleSoft)
  • Experience with data analysis software such as R or SPSS
  • Experience conducting focus groups
  • BA/BS in a science or social science field (math, statistics, computer science, psychology, biology, etc.)
  • Experience managing databases;
  • Knowledge of biology and/or educational psychology or related fields;
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, be highly productive, and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills;
  • Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in confidential environment

About the Job
Working with the Department Head, faculty, and staff in the Department of Biology Teaching & Learning, the Assistant Data Analyst will contribute to data projects focused on undergraduate education outcomes. This position manages and analyzes data from departmental surveys, knowledge assessments, and the University’s Data Warehouse to assess student outcomes. This is a continuous position. Work will be performed both in-person on the Minneapolis campus and remotely.

20% Design, execute, and troubleshoot departmental surveys and knowledge assessments
20% Clean, compile, and organize data while keep detailed records of data processing
20% Perform descriptive and inferential statistical data analysis on survey and knowledge assessment responses, student demographics, and student outcomes
20% Create charts, graphs and tables for internal and external reports, publications, and presentations; interpret results
10% Collaborate with faculty and staff on research projects that focus on the assessment of student success and student learning, aligned with departmental research agenda and externally funded grants
10% Create and maintain standard assessment procedures and protocols for data collection, management, and analysis
