Job Description

The Research Lab Technician II will support research activities in the Plant Sciences department. This role involves conducting experiments in the lab, greenhouse, and field, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Experiments: Perform laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments related to plant sciences, including plant growing and maintain, sample preparation, data collection, and analysis.
  • Data Management: Record, analyze, and interpret experimental data. Maintain accurate and detailed lab notebooks.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and guidelines. Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with researchers, faculty, and other lab technicians. Assist in training new lab members.
  • Inventory Management: Manage laboratory supplies, reagents, and seeds. Place orders and maintain inventory records.

Working Conditions:

  • Laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and biological materials.
  • Greenhouse environment with exposure to plants, growth medium, and plant pathogens.
  • Field environment with exposure to soils and various non-hazardous weather conditions.
  • May require occasional lifting of heavy equipment and extended periods of standing.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri.

Shift

40-hour work week. Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • An undergraduate diploma and/or previous experience with soybean research and seed inventory management are preferred.
  • At least 1 years of laboratory experience, preferably in plant sciences.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and equipment maintenance. Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with specific plant science techniques such as seed inventory management, root phenotyping, and soybean cyst nematodes phenotyping.
  • Familiarity with data record software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $13.50 - $19.50/hour
