Job Description

The successful applicant will work with the members of the program to develop new biologics or use the existing ones to modulate the immune system for the prevention of type 1 diabetes and treatment using pancreatic islets or stem cell derived beta cells. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive microsurgical experience with rodent models and molecular and cellular immunology. Experience in deep immunophenotyping, immune cell proliferation assays, and islet transplantation in rodents will be added advantages. The applicant will also contribute to the ongoing research by active participation in lab discussions, grant and manuscript submissions, oral presentations at local, national, and international meetings, and training graduate students and technical personnel for desired techniques as needed. In addition, the successful applicant is expected to contribute significant intellectual input to the progress and direction of the research and take the lead on a project. We are looking for self-motivated individual with strong creative and critical thinking; detail-oriented and goal-driven researcher who is an exceptional team player.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and execution of experiments, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and communication of the results.
  • Rodent islet isolation, assessment of quality and function in vitro, and transplantation under the kidney capsule, intraportal, or epididymal fat pad.
  • Participate in the generation and use of humanized mouse models to assess the efficacy of lead immunomodulatory protocols to prevent rejection of human islets or stem-cell-derived beta cells as prelude to clinical translation.
  • Immune monitoring using flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or DVM with a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral experience in immunology with focus on autoimmunity or transplantation. Experience working with mouse models of autoimmunity or transplantation, mammalian tissue culture, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and in vitro/in vivo immune functional assays.

Candidates will be evaluated on: Expertise in multiparameter flow cytometry and basic molecular and cellular immunology techniques. Generation of humanized mice and their use for transplantation, handling mice and performing various manipulations, including injections via different routes, harvesting lymphoid tissues and blood for deep immunophenotyping.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$55,000-$70,000 annually
