Job Description

The Recruitment Advising Specialist plays a vital role within the University Advising Center (UAC) and the School of Engineering, a hub for academic guidance and student support serving first-time freshmen, sophomores, and first-semester transfer students. The UAC is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and community while helping students achieve academic success and persistence toward graduation. This dual-function role combines strategic student recruitment and academic advising tailored to the needs of engineering students from their initial engagement with the university through their early academic progression.

Nature Of Work

The specialist works to align recruitment efforts with the School of Engineering goals and institutional priorities, providing information about admissions policies and processes to prospective and confirmed students. Additionally, the position offers holistic advising to help students develop and accomplish educational plans while connecting them with resources to enhance their success.

This role requires an understanding of how recruitment and advising integrate to accomplish team and institutional objectives. It involves problem-solving for atypical or infrequent situations, maintaining the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of outcomes, and regularly interacting with internal and external stakeholders to exchange detailed information.

Performs a variety of assignments and analyses that impact the Student Support function.

  • Develops and implements programs/projects, providing guidance and oversight as necessary.
  • Impacts the quality of own work and the work of others on the team, ensuring efficiency, productivity, compliance, etc.
  • Represents the function to administrators, faculty, staff, and other internal or external constituents.

Key Responsibilities

Student Recruitment and Outreach

  • Serve as the primary contact for prospective and confirmed students, including first-time freshmen, transfer students, and their families, to promote the university’s educational offerings.
  • Plan and execute targeted recruitment strategies, utilizing CRM tools (e.g., SLATE) to monitor engagement and guide students through the enrollment funnel.
  • Coordinate and host virtual and in-person recruitment events, such as campus tours and information sessions, to provide prospective students with a comprehensive introduction to university resources and programs.
  • Collaborate with Admissions and other campus departments to ensure cohesive messaging and a seamless onboarding experience for incoming students.
  • Analyze recruitment data to evaluate effectiveness and refine strategies to align with institutional goals.

Academic Advising

  • Provide holistic academic advising for first-time freshmen, sophomores, and first-semester transfer students, focusing on course selection, academic progress, and career goal alignment.
  • Develop and monitor personalized academic plans to help students achieve educational and professional objectives.
  • Address academic challenges by proactively connecting students with university resources and support services.
  • Facilitate the smooth transition of students to major-specific advisors during their junior year, ensuring continuity in their academic journey.

Administrative Coordination and Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between students, departmental advisors, and administrative units to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the advising process.
  • Support initiatives to integrate recruitment and advising strategies, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Education, Counseling, Business, or a related field.

At least 1 year of experience in student recruitment and/or academic advising.

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Engineering or a related field.

A minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education settings, demonstrating a strong background in both recruitment and advising.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.

Hiring Range: $38,480-54,787

Grade: 8
