The University of Missouri (Mizzou or MU), the flagship, land-grant, comprehensive research university of the University of Missouri System (UM System), seeks a proven educational leader to serve as Dean of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The next dean will join a nationally ranked college with a broad community of talented scholars, students, and staff, all of whom are committed to serving the citizens and communities in Missouri and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to join a college that is thriving across the domains of scholarly research, impactful engagement and student success. Buoyed by a strong and distinct portfolio, the College is expanding its academic and research mission and seeks to leverage its breadth for greater impact for students, the community, and high-impact scholarship.
The next Dean will find a thriving college with an over 150-year history of sustained excellence, boasting record levels of student success outcomes, strong research growth, and good fiscal health. The College is poised to continue expanding its academic, research, and outreach activities, and has ample opportunity to elevate its impact across a distinct and broad portfolio of programs and initiatives. The College serves more than 2,000 students in degree programs spanning the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and contains six academic departments including an iSchool, numerous research centers, robust outreach units and many other resources broadly aligned towards research synergy and interdisciplinary collaboration, curricular and programmatic innovation, and meaningful engagement and extension efforts. In 2024, U.S. News and World Report ranked the College #20 among public universities and # 30 overall in the best colleges of education in the nation. The College includes undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are recognized nationally as leaders in a diverse array of fields, including information science and learning technologies, library and information science, educational administration and educational leadership, human development and family science, and counseling and psychology, among others. The departments of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum and Special Education lead the college’s undergraduate teacher preparation efforts, while also providing graduate training in several specialized areas.
