Brief Summary of Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at University of Nebraska-Kearney is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in computational magnetism in the group of Dr. Aleksander Wysocki. The position is supported by the EQUATE grant https://equate.unl.edu/This position is considered temporary with an estimated end date of May 31st, 2026.
Job Duties
The research work will involve ab initio studies of materials for quantum information science applications using electronic structure methods, quantum chemistry techniques, and atomistic simulations. The position is a part of the EQUATE collaboration, and as such will involve interactions with faculty from Creighton University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Nebraska-Omaha. The successful applicant will 1) perform research work in cooperation with the faculty mentor and his collaborators, 2) prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts, 3) present research results at scientific conferences, 4) actively participate in EQUATE collaboration meetings and activities, 5) actively participate in university-sponsored training for post-doctoral research associates across campus.
Required Qualifications
1) An earned PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related field
2) Good communication skills
3) Ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
1) Experience in electronic structure calculations using DFT and/or quantum chemistry methods
2) Familiarity with the Unix/Linux environment
3) Scientific programming skills
4) Ability to mentor and work with undergraduate students
