The Programming and Retention Coordinator is crucial to the daily operations of the Office for Intercultural Engagement and Leadership in the Division of Student Affairs, which leads and guides programming, resources, outreach, and retention activities to all university students. The coordinator evaluates student needs to address engagement, leadership and belonging by collaborating with university departments, student organizations, and campus stakeholders. Serves as an advisor to student organizations in the unit. Assists organization leaders to establish and execute events and programs that align with the mission of their respective groups, while positively contributing to the university's strategic student enrollment and success plans. Ensures that an equitable approach is applied to programmatic decisions and initiatives from organizations that are advised. Job Duties
- Develop and facilitate programming and activities to support student belonging and leadership that help enhance community-building and retention efforts. Serve as the primary advisor to: Women Are Problematic, Hispanic Student Association, Black Student Association, Global Student Association, PRISM, African Student Union, United in Dance, and First Nations Student Association.
- Co-advise and provide guidance for Loper Programming and Activities Council and relevant SGA committees on culturally competent and responsive programming, creating and implementing programming initiatives in line with the goals of the University of Nebraska at Kearney and those determined by the Division of Student Affairs, after needs-based analyses.
- Assist in daily operations, programming efforts, and training opportunities for the Office for Intercultural Engagement and Leadership. This includes developing and supporting the implementation of student organization leadership training/processes; maintaining inventory of program/event supplies, hosting tabling opportunities on campus; leading student-worker training, daily tasks and scheduling; maintaining department communication initiatives and distributing to campus partners and students; adding events to Loper Links and the university calendar.
- Fulfill other duties assigned that align with the mission of the Office for Intercultural Engagement and Leadership.
- Bachelor's degree
- Work experience supporting inclusive environments; sensitivity to the developmental needs of university students from at-promise communities
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to work in a multifaceted environment, demonstrate strong organization skills and project planning
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Display an ability to work with a variety of individuals such as faculty, staff, students, professional and administrative staff, students and parents
- Able to use technology including Outlook, presentation platforms
- Willing and able to work some evenings and weekends for student programs as needed
