As a Tissue Procurement Coordinator for the Lions Eye Bank of Nebraska (LEBN), responsible for communicating with hospitals, organ and tissue procurement organizations, coroners, hospice groups, and funeral homes on all deaths in Nebraska as they occur, and screening all deaths for the possibility of eye/cornea donation. If the death qualifies for eye donation, they will screen the medical history with nursing staff and through medical records (EMR), and contact family for medical social history and consent for donation; all of this requires a high degree of tact, timing, and attention to detail. They are also responsible for performing sterile recoveries and processing procedures on a regular basis.
