Essential Functions
The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Nebraska - Omaha (UNO) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a focus in Mathematics Education beginning August 18, 2025.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is a regional and national leader in the field of STEM education, and, in particular with mathematics education. STEM Education has been a campus priority since 2013. The recently opened STEM TRAIL center is an example of this priority. The center is helping guide grants, faculty-led and student-led research, outreach, and engagement related to STEM education. The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences is looking to build on this campus priority. This tenure-track Assistant Professor position addresses the growing need for elementary and secondary teachers who are highly qualified in their understanding of mathematics and mathematics knowledge for teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to :
Maintain an active and productive research program in mathematics education Teach a 3 / 3 load (9 hours per semester) of courses primarily focused on mathematics content for future elementary, middle-school, and high-school teachers.
Pursue internal and external funding in support of mathematics education initiatives Lead community engagement outreach efforts, including the High School Mathematics Contest and other similar related outreach events.

Work Schedule
M-F; Courses are scheduled during the day and evening.

Required Qualifications
The successful applicant will hold a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field; will hold a Masters in Mathematics (or equivalent); show evidence of effectiveness in teaching; show evidence of a productive research program and show evidence of experience collaborating with K-12 partners.
Preferred Qualifications
The successful applicant may show evidence of the ability to secure external funding. The candidate may show evidence of successful K-12 teaching experience. The candidate may show evidence of effective people skills, leadership potential, mentoring effectiveness, and effective curriculum development.
