Job Description The Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology at the University of Nevada, Reno housed in the School of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time, 12 month, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. We welcome applicants with an interest in neuro-developmental language disorders, including autism, as well as typical speech and language development, and speech sound disorders. The department, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, offers a B.S. in speech pathology and audiology, a M.S. degree in speech pathology, and a Ph.D. in speech pathology. The graduate program is CAA-accredited. The department houses a comprehensive university-based speech and hearing clinic in partnership with University Health as operated by Renown. We provide state-of the art evaluation and treatment of individuals of all ages in our region. In addition, we offer specialty clinical experiences in cleft palate, autism, language and literacy, dysphagia, and aphasia. The department consists of nine full-time faculty who work together to support each other and the missions of the department and university. Tenured faculty members are active in research, teaching, clinical education and supervision. The department is part of an an established HRSA funded grant, Leadership Education in Autism and related Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND). This position may participate in the LEND grant and work with a variety of university professors and community professionals across the state. The anticipated start date is August 2023. Required Qualifications PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology. Expertise and ability to teach in speech sound disorders and/or child language development and disorders. Experience with autism spectrum disorder and differential diagnosis preferred. Experience in and ability to provide clinical education and supervision. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary capacity with an established team of health care professionals across the university and the community. Demonstrated scholarship potential in respective research interests, develop grant proposals, and obtain external funding. ASHA CCC-SLP and Nevada Licensure in Speech Language Pathology (or be eligible). Demonstrated experience, commitment, and service to equity, justice, inclusion, and diversity in the field. Duties & Responsibilities Provide didactic and clinical instruction during the 12-month calendar year (Fall, Spring, Summer) to support the educational mission of the department. This may include involvement in our undergraduate (BS) degree, Master of Science in speech-language pathology (MS), and research doctorate in speech-language pathology (Ph.D.) programs. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual. Teaching Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Develop and manage curriculum, course content, and/or adapting coursework. Provide clinical education of graduate students through clinical supervision. Lead independent study research/academic experiences for students. Mentor, advise, and participate on student committees. Research/scholarly pursuits Establish a program of research. Apply for funding related to research area(s). Engage in dissemination of research. Service Service to department, school, university, and/or profession by serving on committees that are appropriate to the mission of the Department. Academic advising of graduate students. Depending on area of emphasis, may participate in established interdisciplinary autism assessment team, develop ideas for team functioning, and collaborate with developing research component of the assessment team.
