Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a passionate and dedicated professional to join our team as a Community Outreach Specialist within the Native American Programs. This position is funded by the Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program (FRTEP) grant and requires a reservation agent living on the Walker River Reservation. The position reports to the Coordinator of Native American Programs and plays a vital role in empowering Native American farmers, ranchers, and youth through education, mentorship, and collaboration.

As the Community Outreach Specialist, you will design and implement programs that provide education in agriculture, nutrition, youth development, and entrepreneurship. You will collaborate with tribal entities on USDA programs, irrigation management, and food sovereignty initiatives, fostering community engagement and skill-building through 4-H programs and tribal departments.

Required Qualifications

High School Graduation and four years of related work experience; OR Associate’s Degree and three years of related work experience; OR Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related work experience; OR Master’s Degree and one year of related work experience.

Related experience in community outreach; exposure to natural resources and/or agricultural topics or a related field. Engagement to Native American populations required.

Certification and Licensure

Must have a valid Nevada State Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Schedule and Travel Requirements

This position has a variable work schedule based on program needs to include occasional weekend/evening work. Occasional travel within assigned location is required.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.
