Job Description
One of the oldest student newspapers in the nation, The Nevada Sagebrush has remained a consistent and aggressive voice of the University of Nevada, Reno since 1893. The student run newspaper keeps the university community informed while also providing you with the perfect platform to reach a diverse community of students, their parents and the faculty of the university.
The visual appearance of the student newspaper is what often leads to someone picking up a copy. Design is the key to putting the paper together every week — whether it be photo placement, page layout, headline fonts and more.
Responsibilities
- Design and layout the 8-14 pages of The Nevada Sagebrush on a monthly basis
- Work with editors to ensure content, photos and design meet the editorial and quality standards of The Nevada Sagebrush
- Design page elements (such as infographics, pull quotes, maps, etc.) as needed
- Occasionally design artwork for print ads with the client is unable to provide creative
Required Qualifications
- Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
- Candidate must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled full time toward graduation
- Candidate must have experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Candidate must work well under deadline pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in other Adobe CC program is not required, but is preferred
- Newspaper layout experience is not required, but is preferred
