Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking to hire a Multimedia Editor for The Nevada Sagebrush.
In a modern media landscape, video and audio content is more valuable than ever, especially on social media. As algorithms prioritize visual content, the production of multimedia content is necessary for any new organization — including The Nevada Sagebrush. The multimedia editor oversees the production of all non-print content produced by The Nevada Sagebrush. This can take the form of weekly podcasts, short videos for an Instagram story, audiograms built for Twitter, or longer videos meant for Facebook or YouTube. Moreover, the editor will be responsible for overseeing (and therefore editing) any volunteer content or content submitted by student freelancers so that it meets the editorial standards of The Nevada Sagebrush.
Applicants should have experience producing multimedia journalism, as well as a strong desire to work with a team and dedication to the content they will be producing. Applicants should also be familiar with the multimedia content already produced by The Sagebrush, and should come prepared with ideas to change, improve or expand upon that content.
Applicants must submit at least 3 clips (either audio, video or both) that showcases applicant’s ability to produce media.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the multimedia content produced by or for The Nevada Sagebrush
  • This includes audio (podcasts) and visual (videos produced expressly for social media) content, as well as new forms of content as they are made
  • The editor must work with and recruit volunteer contributors interested in producing multimedia content
  • Should be willing to pitch ideas for new audio or visual content and be willing to innovate on the multimedia content already being produced.
Required Qualifications
  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Candidate must maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 15 credits
  • Candidate must have experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud is required, especially Audition and Premiere
    • Experience with other audio or video editing software is acceptable. However, The Nevada Sagebrush is only equipped with Adobe CC. As such, the multimedia editor should be prepared to edit using the aforementioned programs.

  • Candidate should have experience with video and audio production as well as writing for broadcast
  • Candidate should be familiar with the video and audio equipment available at either the Reynolds School of Journalism lab or the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center.
  • Candidate should work well under deadline pressure.
  • Candidate be comfortable on mic and camera.
  • The Sagebrush cannot provide multimedia equipment of its own. As such, the editor should be familiar with (and approved by the Reynolds School for) the use of the Canon XA10 camera available via the Reynolds School, or the equivalent available from the Knowledge Center.
  • For Sagebrush-produced podcasts, the editor should be familiar with the studio equipment inside Studio 110 inside the Reynolds School of Journalism, or should at least be familiar with the use of audio mixing boards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with After Effects or other similar graphics software is highly preferred, but not required.
  • Willing to learn the use and application of graphics effects software
