This position will support the National Security Intelligence Analysis (NSIA) online graduate degree program, the National Security Intelligence (NSI) online undergraduate minor, and the New England Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (NE IC CAE) program.
Duties/Responsibilities
Teaching Duties
- Teach a total of six classes each academic year
- Teaching assignments will primarily occur in the graduate National Security Intelligence Analysis (NSIA) program
- Teaching assignments may include courses in the undergraduate National Security Intelligence (NSI) Minor
- Teaching will be conducted in an online modality
- Teaching-related activities may include course design and development
- Advise NSIA students as a primary service responsibility
- Support NSIA program activities as assigned
- Contribute to activities of the New England Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (NE IC CAE)
- Provide support to the UNH College of Professional Studies as needed
- Participate in and support activities within the Security Studies department
- Assist with activities related to the NSI Minor as required
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
- An earned doctorate in a discipline related to National Security is required.
- Candidates must have experience working in an intelligence or national security related position. Experience teaching online at the graduate level is required.
Subject-Matter Knowledge
- Deep knowledge (and preferably) scholarship in Intelligence Studies
- Familiarity with recent developments and research trends in the field
- Knowledge of intelligence analytical standards
- Knowledge of analytical techniques
- Knowledge of analytical writing
- Knowledge of the process of supervising intelligence analysts
- Understanding of interdisciplinary connections within the field
- Knowledge of teaching methods and instructional design for higher education
- Understanding of diverse learning styles and strategies to accommodate them
- Awareness of curriculum development and assessment techniques
- Familiarity with the mission, values, and goals of the Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence
- Knowledge of academic policies, accreditation standards, and regulations required for UNH faculty
- Understanding of administrative structures and student support services in higher education
- Designing and delivering engaging and effective lessons
- Providing constructive feedback and mentoring students
- Creating inclusive and equitable learning environments
- Effectively presenting complex concepts to diverse audiences
- Writing clearly and persuasively for academic and non-academic audiences
- Listening and responding to student and colleague concerns
- Proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard)
- Ability to incorporate educational technology (e.g., online simulations, multimedia tools) into teaching
- Conducting fully online courses
- Balancing teaching, research, and administrative duties
- Preparing syllabi, grading assignments, and meeting deadlines
- Participating in departmental and university committees
- Inspiring and motivating students to achieve their academic goals
- Identifying and addressing barriers to student success
- Supporting students’ professional development
- Working effectively with colleagues in team teaching or interdisciplinary projects
- Contributing to program, departmental, and institutional goals
- Building relationships with community partners or industry professionals – specifically military intelligence
- Responding to changing academic and institutional needs
- Incorporating feedback to improve teaching
- Adjusting to new technologies or teaching modalities
- Evaluating and improving teaching methods and materials
- Addressing student concerns or conflicts effectively
- Contributing innovative ideas to curriculum or program development
- Supporting diverse student populations in achieving their academic potential

- Participating in initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience teaching in professional and/or graduate security studies programs, including graduate course development, is strongly preferred.
- Experience with online undergraduate and/or graduate course and program development is also strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a military intelligence organization is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) program is preferred.
- A record of scholarship in security studies is also preferred.
