Position Summary | The
Office of Graduate Medical Education seeks to recruit a faculty member at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full
Professor to serve in a part-time capacity (0.2
FTE) as the Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Curricular
Development for Graduate Medical Education (GME). This is an internal
competitive search, and faculty members of the School of Medicine are eligible
and encouraged to apply. This position is available beginning January 4, 2023;
a later date could be negotiated, as needed, for the successful applicant.
The
Director of DEI Curricular Development for GME will partner with the Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical
Education, the Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education, and the
Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education in the oversight and evaluation of
DEI curricular development for the 70 residency and fellowship programs at
UNM.
The
Director of DEI Curricular Development will collaborate with the Assistant Dean and Senior Associate Dean in the
development and implementation of GME diversity initiatives, including
co-chairing the Curricular Development sub-committee of the GME Justice,
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Council as well as supporting the
Resident Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. Alongside other GME
leadership, the Director of DEI Curricular Development will engage with advancing
promising and best practices in recruitment and retention of diverse trainees. The Director of DEI Curricular Development may
also engage in development and support of quality improvement initiatives and
curriculum in GME.
Depending on the interests of the
individual selected for this position, this person will be responsible for
consultative services to Program Directors and Associate/Assistant Program
Directors who seek assistance in developing DEI curricula, in collaboration
with the Assistant Dean of GME. This person will also work collaboratively with
GME leadership to collect and curate data on GME DEI curricular development,
and GME DEI resource needs. This person may also collaborate with the Office
for Continuous Professional Learning and the Learning Environment Office to
create faculty professional development tools around DEI in medical education
and medical practice.
Tasks may include attendance at some
GME oversight committees when needed and other committee work as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Chair the GME JEDI Council Curriculum Subcommittee and
attend GME JEDI council meetings.
- Oversee and support the development, implementation,
evaluation, and academic writing of diversity-related curricula throughout
UNM GME.
- Develop processes for GME to evaluate DEI curricular
activities across different programs, provide resources to
programs specific to their individual needs, and evaluate the
success of these resources over time.
- Develop and implement, in conjunction with OCPL,
SOM faculty development resources to support DEI-related curricula
integration.
- Work collaboratively with other DEI offices and
representatives, including but not limited to other SOM Directors of DEI
Curricula.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications | Minimum Qualifications:
- MD, DO, PhD, DDS, or equivalent
- 1 year GME program administrative experience (e.g.,
Program Director, Associate/Assistant Program Director, CCC or PEC chair,
core faculty, or another significant faculty role in a GME program)
- UNM SOM Faculty at the
Assistant, Associate or Professor level
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DEI in higher education
- Experience working successfully and collaboratively
with educators, learners, and faculty
- Evidence of outstanding leadership, communication, and
interpersonal skills
- Experience in the development, implementation, and
assessment of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, quality
improvement initiatives or curricula, and/or other academic projects or
community engagement activities
- Additional training or experience in curriculum
development
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity,
inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly
diverse communities
