What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher,Pre-College Programs position at University of New Mexico?
The UNM-Valencia Campus Upward Bound Program is taking applications for Teacher, Pre-College Programs. This is a grant-funded on-call position with current funding available through 08/31/2025. This position oversees certain day-to-day aspects of the Upward Bound Program including but not limited to tutoring, leading workshops, teaching, and executing college preparation/academic lessons for high school students.
This person will assist with tutoring and instructing during
the Academic Year. This position provides support in language arts or other pre-college disciplines at area high schools and at UNM-Valencia
Campus; Practices various pedagogical practices to enhance student academic
progress as well as gain the skills necessary to transition from high school to
higher education; Supports and engages students in college preparatory topics; Documents student progress, attendance, and other student tracking
tasks.
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the
University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the
University of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the region
and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on
teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs,
technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High
School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties. The faculty and
staff serve a student body of over 2,000 students per semester. UNM

- Elementary or secondary level teaching certification may be a requirement for specified positions in this classification.
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years directly related experience
- Experience working with at-risk or first-gen students
