Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Housekeeping Services is comprised of a staff of more than 400 employees who provide cleaning service and floor care to more than 40,000 campus customers in the maintenance and operation of the University’s 18 million plus square feet over 300 teaching, research, medical, administrative, residential, athletic and library buildings. Position Summary
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $3,974 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE: $1,987 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $1,987 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.
The position provides daily floor care, carpet care, daily routine and detail cleaning of campus building interior and exterior areas including but not limited to hallways, offices, lounges, restrooms, student housing, classrooms, laboratories, entrances, exits, and stairways. General duties include vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, stripping floors, waxing floors, moving office furniture and equipment, cleaning baseboards, edges and door jams, scraping corners, gum removal, carpet extraction, operating heavy motorized equipment and trash removal. This position also provides on-site leadership to 15-20 floor care/cleaning technicians, which includes oversight of daily floor care/carpet care, routine and detail cleaning; monitoring workplace safety and ensuring proper personal protective equipment is worn; coordinating the Zone Manager’s requested employee work assignments; preparation and inventory of supplies and distribution trays; transporting employees around campus; and conducting on-the-job training. Position may serve as a liaison with zone customers in conjunction with the Zone Manager.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. NOTE: Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must have ability to perform daily routine and detail cleaning of campus building interior and exterior areas including but not limited to offices, lounges, restrooms, student housing, classrooms, laboratories, entrances, exits, and stairways; ability to perform general duties including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting and trash removal. Employees must adhere to safety requirements by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment. Requires ability to understand and follow work orders and product instructions, product labels, product directions, other written job materials, and understand verbal instructions. Ability to provide clear and understandable training to employees on floor care and cleaning methods. Ability to foster a work environment of civility and respect for assigned team members and clients. This position is designated as a mandatory employee and is required to report to work in the event of a public health emergency. This position is designated as an adverse weather emergency position and is required to report to, or remain at, work in the event of an adverse weather emergency. The selected candidate for this position must have ability to work a flexible work schedule based on department needs, which sometimes requires work on the weekend: for example, training, inclement weather, exam week, graduation and flexing work schedule as requested by customer’s cleaning needs in buildings such as student housing, offices and science/medical facilities. Must have a valid NC Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prefer candidates with demonstrated experience in institutional or commercial cleaning, including experience in team-cleaning or comparable cleaning methodologies; experience as a lead worker or a supervisor; demonstrated experience in providing training on proper cleaning or safety procedures or comparable training experience; working knowledge of housekeeping chemicals and equipment.
Required Licenses/Certifications
A valid NC Driver’s License is required for this position.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Applicants must be able to move objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation. Employees are required to adhere to safety requirements by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
