This posting will fill up to (4) positions in one or both of two following distinct areas of focus:

Online Teaching - Qualified applicants should have expertise in online instruction, course management, and assessment, with a focus on fostering student engagement and promoting diverse pathways to success in virtual learning environments. They should demonstrate the ability to implement best practices, including adherence to Quality Matters standards and design strategies that encourage active participation and support diverse student needs.

On-site Teaching - Qualified candidates will focus on leveraging innovative technologies and active learning pedagogies to cultivate engaging, student-centered in-person or blended learning environments. They will guide students toward mastering course and program outcomes through active participation and regular in-class feedback, fostering a culture of critical thinking, collaboration, and success.

Both positions require on-campus presence and are not remote.

The anticipated start date is Fall 2025, with the application review beginning on January 6, 2025.

The College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) at UNC Charlotte is one of the most comprehensive and innovative computing colleges in the country. With over 140 faculty and staff and 5,100 students, CCI graduates more than 1,300 Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. holders a year. The College is organized in four academic units: Department of Computer Science (CS), Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS), Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics (BiG) and the School of Data Science (SDS). CCI has distinct research strengths in AI & Machine Learning, Cybersecurity & Privacy, Computational Bioinformatics & Genomics, Human-Centered Design, High-Performance Computing and CS education.

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will teach undergraduate courses and contribute to the design and development of accessible, ethical, engaging, and high-quality curricula at the course or program level, ensuring fairness and inclusivity. They will continuously explore innovative technologies and pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement and success while actively participating in student mentoring and university service. This role supports the college's mission, prioritizes student-centered education in computing and related disciplines, and aligns with both academic and industry standards to address professional workforce needs. While the primary focus is on undergraduate education, candidates who meet the criteria for graduate faculty appointment may also contribute to graduate-level instruction.
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Lecturer: A Master's or Ph.D. degree (preferred) in Computer Science or a related discipline. Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and student success, along with a dedication to continuous professional development in pedagogy or other instructional areas. Strong potential for leadership in curriculum development and mentoring, with a willingness to actively contribute to department, college, and university service.

Senior Lecturer:
A Master's or Ph.D. degree (preferred) in Computer Science or a related discipline. Proven excellence in collegiate-level teaching and a strong commitment to student success. Evidence of leadership in instructional practices and innovation, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development in pedagogy or related fields. Demonstrated ability and willingness to take on leadership roles in curriculum development and mentoring, as well as actively contribute to department, college, and university affairs.
