School/Department Information
An arts conservatory of international renown, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts was the first state-supported, residential school of its kind in the nation. Established by the N.C. General Assembly in 1963, the School opened as the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1965 after nearly a million dollars was raised to win the new school for Winston-Salem. In 1972, the School became part of the prestigious University of North Carolina system. The School’s mission is unique: to train students from middle school through graduate school for professional careers in the performing, visual, and film and television arts. Performance is an integral part of the training program, and students, faculty and guest artists present more than 400 public performances and screenings annually in the School’s facilities in Winston-Salem, as well as across the state and the Southeast, in major U.S. cities and overseas.

Primary Description of Work
The Leave Administrator is responsible for accurate and timely administration for a variety of HR programs following established guidelines, in the human resources functional areas such as: Leave administration; FMLA, Parental Leave, workers compensation; Short Term Disability; benefits administration; and other duties assigned. Maintain employee leave records and reconcile leave balances for all campus employees. Work involves developing and maintaining productive and collaborative work relationships, which includes assessing and responding to payroll needs. Able to interpret state and federal policy that affect the Human Resources program. Relay and explain processes correctly to Faculty and Staff. Verify and ensure accuracy and validity of all leave transactions. Examine leave records to ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulations. Maintain and manage leave records of moderate variety and complexity, including preparation of weekly, monthly and annual leave reports and roll statements and reports. Use analytical skills as it relates to processing and understanding numbers within the leave process. Communicate and promote human resources procedures that support UNC School of the Arts in achieving goals and objectives.

Work Schedule and hours
Monday – Friday
40 hours per week, with occasional evening & weekend hours, as needed.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Responsible for accurate and timely administration of all leave. Maintain employee leave records and reconcile leave balances for all campus employees. Generate various reports throughout the year. Work involves developing and maintaining productive and collaborative work relationships, which includes assessing and responding to payroll needs. Able to interpret state and federal policy that affect the Human Resources program. Relay and explain processes correctly to Faculty and Staff. Completes daily work to meet established deadlines. Communicate and promote human resources procedures that support UNC School of the Arts in achieving goals and objectives. Must have strong communications skills, both oral and written.

Ability to verify and ensure accuracy and validity of all leave transactions. Ability to examine leave records to assure adherence to accounting standards and regulations. Ability to maintain and manage leave records of moderate variety and complexity, including preparation of weekly, monthly and annual leave reports and roll statements and reports. Must have strong analytical skills as it relates to processing and understanding numbers within the leave process. Position will assist the Benefits Manager and the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a four year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in leave and payroll procedures. A strong technical and analytical background. Considerable knowledge of human resources administration principles and procedures; ability to interpret Federal, State, and University statues/policies/guidelines and to apply them to a variety of programs; excellent oral and written communication skills as required for problem resolution, composing and communicating policies/procedures and preparing reports and documentation; ability to direct, lead, and supervise others; ability to work with other managers; ability to understand systems and the interrelationship of parts within complex systems (both organizational systems and automated computer). Experience with Banner, Benefit Focus, Corvel ,Empyrean. and Empower.
