Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Physical Plant is to maintain the building, grounds, and infrastructure of the UNCW campus so that it is safe, reliable, clean, and attractive. This includes departments such as HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Landscaping, Housekeeping, Motor Pool, Food Services Maintenance, Carpentry, Paint and Roofing, Fire Alarm and Physical Security and Access and Locksmith Services.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Food Service Equipment Technician performs all aspects of repair and maintenance including diagnostic evaluations of all stationary and portable food service equipment utilized by Campus Dining. The incumbent performs in accordance with required policies and procedures and safety practices and measures for the university, interacts with the campus community as a Physical Plant customer service representative. Performs other duties as assigned.
- This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris, as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and/or gas systems preferred.
- Experience in refrigeration a plus.
- Two years’ experience in food service equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
- Additional preference for Licensure or professional Certification in any area of food service equipment maintenance including electrical, HVAC/Refrigeration, and gas.
Required Certifications or licensure
Valid NC drivers license, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
