Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Physical Plant Locksmith shop in the Physical Plant Department is to maintain and repair the main campus and remote facility locking systems. Locking systems include both mechanical and electronic access equipment. Repairs include installing door closures, rekeys, setting up cores, lock repair, duplication of keys and keeping accurate keying records.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The primary purpose of the Locksmith Shop Locksmith II position is to assist with the duplication of keys, rekeys, and lock repair of the continuous growth in university buildings.
This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist win snow, ice and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Position requires journey level duties in the repair and installation of locks, door checks, and related hardware; and design and layout of small locking systems or minor additions or modifications to existing larger locking systems. Work assignments are received from a higher level locksmith or other supervisory type personnel.
Required Certifications or licensure
- Valid NC Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain within 30 days
- N.C. Locksmith license or the ability to earn in 1 year.
