Must have developing program of scholarly research, experience in teaching, or professional work of high caliber, and willingness to participates in University related service duties at least at the departmental level.
General Description / Primary Purpose :
The Department of Biology is seeking a 9-month, tenure-earning Assistant Professor in Coastal and Marine Biology. We are searching for an outstanding scientist in the areas of : 1) Vertebrate Ecology. This position will report to Dr. Jim Gelsleichter, Biology Department Chair. Position responsibilities include a 2 / 2 teaching load of undergraduate (lower-level and upper-level) and graduate courses in the area of expertise potentially including Ecology courses. Additional responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of an extramurally-funded research program. This will include pursuing and obtaining extramural grant support, performing research, recruiting and supervising MS students, disseminating research results in presentations at professional conferences, and manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals. The individual is expected to contribute to departmental governance and conduct professional service activities.

About the Department : The UNF Department of Biology is located in Jacksonville, Florida, at the conflux of the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean. The department offers baccalaureate degrees in Biology and Biomedical Sciences with areas of concentration in Coastal and Marine Biology, Ecology and Evolution and Molecular / Cell Biology. Masters level degrees are also offered with a focus on Coastal / Marine Biology, Ecology / Evolutionary Biology or Microbiology / Molecular Biology. Department resources include a fleet of vehicles / vessels, and a 20' x 80' greenhouse situated on the roof of the building. Vertebrate Ecologist : Open to areas of specialization which may include behavior, physiology and evolution. Candidates that can contribute to the establishment of new research initiatives or support UNF's strategic emphasis on coastal resilience are particularly encouraged to apply.
