$16.76 HourlyJob Description: The Allen Lastinger Center for Florida History (ALCFH) collects primary and secondary source material related to the state of Florida's transportation and economic industries, from Precontact to the present, placing Florida history within the larger context of the history of the United States and Atlantic world. Located within the Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida, the ALCFH and its resources are available to the campus community and general public, both in person and digitally. The position reports to the Allen Lastinger Center for Florida History Librarian.
Job Function: Library Services Specialist will assist with providing access to the ALCFH's collections. The incumbent will interact with users in person and remotely, helping to create an inclusive and welcoming space for the study of Florida history. Duties will include, but are not limited to: monitoring the ALCFH’s reading room when it is open; scheduling patrons; assisting users with orientation and research; communicating and enforcing policies; answering questions or directing them to the appropriate party; retrieving and re-shelving materials; keeping usage statistics; assisting with social media; and assisting the Allen Lastinger Center for Florida History Librarian with instruction and outreach.
Marginal Functions:
- Participates in library committees.
- Participates in library special projects and events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Department Requirements: Ability to work closely and collaboratively with diverse colleagues and patrons, as well as to work independently. Attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to multitask and balance priorities, and demonstrated communication and research skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, online databases, research tools, and library catalogs. The ability to lift/push/pull up to 50lbs, ability to handle delicate/fragile items, and read cursive. Some exposure to dust and dormant mold is inevitable. Must be comfortable interacting with members of the public and enforcing rules when the Librarian is not present.
Preferred qualifications: Prior library experience; special collections/rare books experience is a plus. Experience with ArchivesSpace, library catalogs, and LibGuides. Beginner level Spanish is a plus.
