Position Overview

The Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement is crucial in creating and managing opportunities for meaningful alumni volunteerism. This position fosters strong partnerships with campus stakeholders and empowers alumni leaders to deepen their connection to the University of North Texas (UNT). The Associate Director is a vital link between alumni and the university, supporting the governance, growth, and strategic alignment of alumni networks and volunteer programs.

Role Summary
This role focuses on developing and overseeing alumni volunteer networks, including regional chapters and affinity groups, ensuring they align with the UNT Alumni Association's policies and university priorities. As a leader in volunteer management systems, the Associate Director ensures the effective adoption and utilization of tools to optimize alumni engagement. The position is critical for developing and implementing policies, facilitating training, and supporting alumni leaders in driving initiatives that reflect UNT's strategic objectives.

With over 300,000 alumni holding degrees, the Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement is responsible for implementing scalable and impactful engagement strategies that connect alumni with UNT. This position is essential for maintaining robust alumni networks, enhancing volunteer experiences, and leveraging alumni leadership to expand the university's reach and strengthen its reputation. Ultimately, this role is vital for sustaining long-term alumni involvement and fostering a culture of advocacy and support for the university.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and four years of related professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles or ability quickly assimilate.
  • In depth knowledge of principles of assigned area Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to utilize software relevant to the position.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Prior experience serving as an administrator for an online platform.
  • Experience working with alumni groups, employee resource groups, non-profit chapters, etc.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with alumni leaders to design and implement programs that increase alumni involvement and engagement.
  • Serve as the super user for volunteer management software, ensuring effective adoption, training, and support for alumni volunteers and staff.
  • Oversee governance of alumni networks (regional and affinity groups), developing and enforcing policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Partner with campus stakeholders to enhance volunteer opportunities aligned with university goals.
  • Drive the expansion of alumni networks nationally, emphasizing volunteer-led leadership and innovative engagement strategies.
  • Plan and execute events for alumni volunteers, such as leadership retreats, training workshops, and appreciation initiatives.
  • Monitor and manage budgets for alumni volunteer programs, ensuring compliance with Alumni Association and University policies.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm; some evenings and weekends required.
