The University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNC COM) seeks a Chair of Biomedical Sciences to provide leadership and vision for the department. The Chair will guide faculty, staff, and students, and lead curriculum development, research, and service activities to meet the mission of UNC COM. This individual must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in training future physicians and fostering a diverse, inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in medical education, preferably at a college of osteopathic medicine or school of medicine and possess demonstrated leadership skills. Rank and compensation will align with the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Associate Professor to Full Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and/or Molecular Biology

Compensation Range: $124,000 to $162,000 annually

Associate Professor to Full Professor of Microbiological Sciences and/or Immunology

Compensation Range: $127,000 to $165,000 annually

Asssociate Professor to Full Professor of Physiology, Pathology, and/or Related Sciences

Compensation Range: $120,000 to $143,000

Job Duties:

Teaching and Curriculum Development (50%)
  • Collaborate with chairs, faculty, and administration to develop, assess, and modify the curriculum as part of the college’s ongoing quality improvement program.
  • Create educational materials such as lecture PowerPoints, voiceovers, video recordings, and other resources as needed.
  • Participate in course preparation, classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Provide mentorship and motivation for students, fostering their education in biomedical sciences.
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities.
Administrative Duties (10%)
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and facilities.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff.
  • Facilitate faculty development initiatives and represent the department in professional organizations.
  • Lead departmental meetings to set strategic goals and objectives.
  • Secure external funding and grants for departmental projects.
Service (20%)
  • Serve on college committees and work with students in research and inter-professional activities.
  • Advise student clubs as needed and participate in faculty development programs.
Research and Scholarly Activities (20%)
  • Engage in research or scholarly activities within the candidate's area of expertise, contributing to the advancement of biomedical sciences.
  • Mentor and guide medical students in research projects, fostering critical thinking and evidence-based practices.
  • Promote and support interdisciplinary research collaborations within and beyond the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals to contribute to the academic community.
  • Encourage faculty involvement in research and provide guidance on developing their scholarly work.
  • Align research activities with the strategic goals and mission of UNC COM, contributing to its reputation as a center of excellence in medical education and biomedical research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences or MD/DO (or closely related fields including biochemistry, immunology, physiology, pathology, etc.) with 5 years of relevant teaching and leadership experience.

Experience:

Experience in curriculum development, accreditation standards, and advising students for board preparation.

Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Background Check

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
