Contract Renewable Lecturer of Writing Studies

The Department of English at the University of Northern Colorado seeks to hire a contract-renewable lecturer of Writing Studies. Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching and advising; scholarly activity; and service to the department, college, and university. Teaching load is four courses per semester, composed mostly of general education writing courses, but the hire may have the opportunity to contribute to the department’s additional programs: the Writing, Editing, and Publishing program and/or the Literature, Culture, and Creativity program.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic English Department that is committed to enhancing the diversity and inclusiveness of the campus community and the curriculum. They will contribute to the delivery of outstanding writing instruction and demonstrate an ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An MA in English or closely related field
  • One year of teaching college composition

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years or more of experience teaching college composition
  • History of service contributions to writing program administration (for example, serving on committees focused on general education writing, facilitating teacher training/mentorship programs, serving in appointed or elected positions, etc.)
  • Commitment to continual professional development in rhetoric/composition (for example, participating in symposia related to pedagogy, joining teaching and learning communities, seeking out additional training opportunities, etc.)
  • Additional course work beyond the MA (for example, ABD or PhD encouraged to apply)
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracist writing assessment

Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans for all full-time positions. Employees at UNC receive sick leave, and other leave options may be available based on position. Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
