Position Summary :

This position is a nine-month tenure track,appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of BiologicalSciences within the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Responsibilitiesinclude teaching (60%), research (20%) and service (20%). The successful candidate will teach microbiologycourses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including design ofaccompanying laboratories and supervision of graduate teaching assistants. The position may include the opportunity forteaching other biology courses as needed and aligned with the incumbent'sexperience. This position includes a dedicated research laboratory space withstart-up. It is expected that the successful applicant will establish amicrobiology research program training undergraduate and graduate students(M.S. and Ph.D.).

Job Duties :

MinimumQualifications : This position requires a doctoraldegree in biology or microbiology (or closely related field) and demonstratedexperience in teaching college level biology lectures and / or laboratories. Researchexperience in an area related to microbiology, as evidenced by scholarly works.

PreferredQualifications : Thesuccessful candidate will have potential for excellence in teachingmicrobiology courses with associated laboratories; an ability to design undergraduatelaboratories using modern pedagogy such as CUREs; potential for innovative,learner-centered classroom teaching. The successful candidate will have the potentialto develop a research laboratory in microbiology and postdoctoral experience includinggrant writing. Experience in mentoring students in research and / or teaching. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionis desired.

About the Department

Thedepartment offers undergraduate degreesin five biology-related emphasis areas. We also have graduate optionsincluding master's degrees with research thesis and non-thesis options, and aPh.D. program in biological education. Our Ph.D. program offers a uniquetraining environment that blends basic science with pedagogical training. The biology faculty are active in teaching and research in the spirit of thestudent-centered Teacher / Scholar Model. Faculty expertise ranges from molecularbiology to ecology with many research areas in between. Due to our small sizeand typical open-door policy, the biology faculty have close professionalinteractions with undergraduate and graduate students. There are also strongcollaborative traditions within the department and with other programs.
