Job Description:
The Educational Talent Search program at the University of Northern Iowa is looking for Program Assistants for the Educational Talent Search Summer Academy taking place at Hawkeye Community College. This position will participate in numerous program activities and day-trips with program participants. The summer program will run from June 16th through June 27th then from July 7th through July 18th with training starting on June 12th. The hourly rate for this position will be $20.00.
Duties and Responsibilities: Assists and participates in all program activities, such as field trips to UNI campus and various places in the community; works with middle school students on a daily basis, Monday through Friday; drives a van with up to six students in travel to and from home and during numerous field trips; assures safety of youth attending programs; attends professional staff meetings as needed; and performs other program duties as assigned.
Qualifications: At least one year of experience working with youth, either in a paid or voluntary capacity; highly motivated individual capable of working independently without supervision; knowledgeable, open-minded, and friendly; excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be self-motivated; knowledge of and ability to enforce safety procedures; knowledge of basic first aid; valid driver’s license and a good driving record; flexible, trustworthy, and have the physical ability to fully participate in all program activities; and accountable with a strong attendance record required. Experience working with youth of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and skill levels; and ability to drive a van to pick up six students from home to Hawkeye Community College every morning and back home at end of program each day and during numerous field trips preferred.
