Department Summary

Founded in 1960, the Robert D. Clark Honors College (CHC) is a liberal arts honors college within the University of Oregon. The College offers students a small liberal arts experience nested within a Research 1 institution. The CHC’s dynamic core education curriculum provides students a strong interdisciplinary foundation in the liberal arts, as well as a series of unique courses, including Calderwood Seminars in Public Writing and specialized 400-level colloquia. Run as seminars, CHC courses are writing and communication intensive and open only to honors college students. Courses are capped at 19 students, allowing for vibrant intellectual discussions, unique opportunities for pedagogical experimentation and rich faculty-student interaction.

Position Summary

The Clark Honors College (CHC) at the University of Oregon invites applications for an exciting opportunity to join our growing, collaborative faculty community in Fall 2025. As part of our dynamic team, you will design and teach small interactive courses that spark intellectual curiosity across fields of inquiry; advise and mentor a cohort of curious and motivated undergraduate students; and contribute to the governance of the CHC.

We are seeking an innovative, student-centered colleague who is committed to designing courses for CHC students from diverse academic backgrounds. We welcome applicants from all disciplines within the arts and humanities, especially candidates with interdisciplinary teaching experience, who can teach a broad range of courses that extend across traditional disciplines. We strongly encourage applicants who have worked with students from a variety of majors and backgrounds. Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree in an arts or humanities discipline
  • Evidence of teaching excellence

Professional Competencies

  • Ability to contribute new course topics to the CHC curriculum, as well as the potential to expand teaching beyond the candidate’s core field
  • Ability to provide inclusive, engaged, and research-led teaching at the college level
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, pursuing majors across campus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in a multi-disciplinary work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching writing and communication
  • Ability to contribute to the CHC through their understanding of the barriers facing first-generation students, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, and other members of groups underrepresented in higher education (including DACA students), as evidenced by professional, life experiences, and/or educational background
  • Experience teaching core education or introductory courses in a liberal arts context
  • Experience with undergraduate advising and mentoring
