Department or Program Summary : The Music Technology program offers exciting curricula that lead to three degrees : a Bachelor of Science in Music, Music Technology option; a Master of Music in Intermedia Music Technology; and a Ph.D. in Data-driven Music Performance and Composition. Each curriculum strives to balance the development of artistic and creative skills with the mastery of technical aspects of the discipline. Music Technology also serves the interdisciplinary Multimedia Minor (administered by the School of Art Design) as well as the undergraduate Data Science degree where music technology provides a music and sound-centric domain specialization. Program facilities include a suite of outstanding studios designed for electroacoustic and new media performance and composition. Studios are equipped with current software, digital mixers, alternative controllers, and sensor-based interfaces for musical and artistic exploration.

Original works produced by faculty and students are regularly presented around the country and world at festivals and symposia including the International Computer Music Conference, the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States National Conference, the Kyma International Sound Symposium, the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression, and Musicacoustica in Beijing. Our graduates hold positions on university faculties, pursue various careers in the music industry, work in multimedia production and sound for video, and compose music grounded in technology.
