Department Summary

The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is an ambitious initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation, and the world. The Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program trains students in the real-world knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the industrial research laboratory and at the interview table. We believe an advanced degree should help students land a job and prepare them for a successful career. The program currently has multiple tracks including Bioinformatics, Semiconductor Device Processing, Optical Materials & Devices, Molecular Sensors & Biotechnology, and Polymer Science.

Position Summary

An instructor in the Knight Campus Internship program will teach summer and academic term courses in the Semiconductor program with the goal of preparing students for entry level positions in academic, industry, and government labs. The laboratory instructor and advisor will teach students topics in semiconductor processing and characterization in an experiential format. They will also assist the program director in promoting student success including participation in admissions committee, student professional and technical mentoring, engagement with the alumni network, and engagement with external partners on internship check-ins and evaluations, when needed. Management and oversight of instructional lab spaces will be done in coordination with CAMCOR. A small amount of research may also be conducted to stay up to date in relevant fields, engage with external partner scientists, and inform the curriculum.

Minimum Requirements

  • Terminal Degree from an accredited higher education institution in physics, chemistry, engineering, or related discipline;
  • 2 years experience teaching in a lab setting at the graduate level;
  • Experience mentoring graduate students

Professional Competencies

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with spin coating, plasma etching, wet chemical processing, physical vapor deposition, thermal processing, oxide growth, and photolithography including the use of mask aligners;
  • Experience overseeing tools in a user facility;
  • 3 years' industry experience in semiconductor processing
